よくある間違い

• ✕ Can the vendor commit the delivery by Friday?

  この意味の commit は、実行する内容の前に to を置いて commit to doing something の形にします。

• ✕ Can you commit with this deadline?

  ○ Can you commit to meeting this deadline?

  期限を守ることを確約する場合は with ではなく commit to meeting the deadline と言います。

Can ~ commit to ~? は失礼？

失礼とは限りませんが、相手に明確な約束を求めるため、やや直接的です。柔らかくするなら、Would you be able to commit to ~?（〜を確約していただけますか？）などが一般的です。
