道案内や、目的のものを見つける方法を相手に説明するときに使います。店内の場所を教える場面から、設定や検索の手順を伝える場面まで幅広く使え、丁寧すぎない日常的な表現です。

会話で使ってみる

言い換え・似た表現

• You’ll find it by taking the second exit.

  2つ目の出口を出れば、そこに着きます。

  You can find itよりも、案内としてやや自然で安心感のある表現

• You can locate the file by searching its name.

  ファイル名を検索すれば、そのファイルを見つけられます。

  locateを使った少し硬めで、仕事向きの表現

• You should be able to find it near the entrance.

  入口の近くで見つけられるはずです。

  確実ではない案内をやわらげて伝える表現

  受付の近くを探してみてください。

  探してみるよう提案するカジュアルな表現

よくある間違い

• ✕ You can find it by to check the website.

  ○ You can find it by checking the website.

  byの後ろには動名詞を置くため、to checkではなくcheckingにします。

• ✕ You can find it at following the signs.

  ○ You can find it by following the signs.

  方法を示すときはatではなくbyを使います。

• ✕ You can find by checking the map.

  ○ You can find it by checking the map.

  findの目的語として、見つける対象を表すitが必要です。
