どちらでも

問題や出来事を、担当者や責任者にきちんと伝えたことを話す場面で使います。単なる雑談で知らせたというより、必要な相手に正式に伝えたという響きがあり、仕事やトラブル対応でも使えます。

会話で使ってみる

言い換え・似た表現

• I told my manager about the problem.

  その問題について上司に伝えました。

  会話的で、正式な報告よりやわらかい表現

• I notified the office about the incident.

  その出来事を事務所に通知しました。

  やや硬く、事務的な通知に使う表現

• I reported the incident to the police.

  その出来事を警察に届け出ました。

  警察など公的機関への報告に使う表現

• The issue was reported to the manager.

  その問題はマネージャーに報告されました。

  誰が報告したかを伏せる受け身の表現

• I’ve already reported the error to IT.

  そのエラーをもうIT担当に報告しました。

  報告が完了していることを強調する現在完了形

よくある間違い

• ✕ I reported to my manager the problem.

  ○ I reported the problem to my manager.

  意味は通じますが、reportの後に報告内容を置く語順のほうが一般的です。

• ✕ I reported the problem for my manager.

  ○ I reported the problem to my manager.

  報告する相手には通常、forではなくtoを使います。

• ✕ I reported about the problem to my manager.

  ○ I reported the problem to my manager.

  reportを動詞として使う場合、報告内容の前に通常aboutは置きません。
