使う場面とニュアンス

試験、大会、コンテストなどへの参加・出場を相手に誘う時に使います。自分も参加するつもりで「一緒に〜に出てみない？」と誘う場面にも使えますが、go in for 自体に「一緒に」という意味が含まれるわけではありません。友達や同僚に使う、ややくだけた表現です。

  元表現より丁寧で、参加先を明確にする

よくある間違い

• ✕ Do you want to go in the contest?

  ○ Do you want to go in for the contest?

  参加・出場を表す go in for では for が必要です。

• ✕ Do you want to go in for joining the contest?

  ○ Do you want to go in for the contest?

  この意味の go in for の後ろには、通常、参加・出場する対象の名詞を置きます。

• ✕ Do you want to go in for to the marathon?

  ○ Do you want to go in for the marathon?

  go in for の for の後ろに、さらに to は置きません。
