どちらでも

その日に扱う内容や、当日の重点・課題・特別メニューなどを簡単に確認するときに使います。文法的には自然ですが、名詞によっては「What is today's ...?」や「What are we doing today?」のほうが一般的です。

よくある間違い

• ✕ What today is the homework?

  ○ What is the homework today?

  疑問詞の後では、be動詞を主語の前に置きます。なお、宿題については What's today's homework? のほうが一般的です。

• ✕ What are the homework today?

  ○ What is the homework today?

  homework は通常数えない名詞なので、単数扱いで is を使います。

• ✕ What is the focus in today?

  ○ What is the focus today?

  当日の内容を表す today の前に、通常 in は置きません。

よくある質問

What is ~ today? はどんなときに使う？

その日に扱う内容や当日の重点、特別メニューなど、特定の項目を確認するときに使えます。ただし、予定全体をたずねるなら What do we have planned for today? や What's on the agenda for today? のほうが一般的です。

What is ~ today? と What is today's ~? の違いは？

どちらも使えますが、homework や special のように「今日の特定のもの」をたずねる場合は What is today's homework? や What's today's special? のほうが自然なことが多いです。一方、What is the focus today? のように、今日の状況で変わる重点やテーマをたずねる場合は What is ~ today? が自然です。
