分散
「分散」の英語
「分散」は英語で variance と言います。統計で値のばらつきを表す語です。生物や物質が広がる意味では dispersal、配置のばらつきには dispersion、権限や機能の分散には decentralization が一般的です。
「分散」の英語の使い分け
統計でデータが平均からどれだけ散らばるかを表します。
データや物体の配置が空間的にどう散らばるかを表します。
生物や種、物質がある場所から広がる過程に使います。
権限や機能を中央から各地や部門に分ける場合に使います。

× The distribution of the data is large.
○ The data have a large variance.
統計で平均からのばらつきを表すなら、distribution ではなく variance を使います。
× We need to variance the information across offices.
○ We need to distribute the information across offices.
variance は名詞で、情報を分けて配る動作には distribute を使います。
