「陰影表現」の英語

「陰影表現」は英語で chiaroscuro と言います。絵画を中心に、明暗の強い対比で立体感や劇的な効果を出す表現を指します。一般的な陰影なら shading と言うこともあります。

美術・写真・映画で、明暗の強い対比を表す専門用語です。

chiaroscuroは、イタリア語のchiaro（明るい）とscuro（暗い）の合成語で、ルネサンス期の画家が光と影の対比を用いる技法を表す語として英語に入った。
