「自粛」の英語
「自粛」は英語で refrain from ... と言います。要請や周囲への配慮から行動を控える場合に使い、self-restraint は欲求や感情を抑える個人の自制心を指します。少し硬く言うなら exercise restraint も使えます。

「自粛」を英語にするときのよくある間違い
× We did self-restraint and canceled the event.
○ We decided to refrain from holding the event.
自粛する行動には do ではなく refrain from が自然です。
× The government asked people self-restraint.
○ The government asked people to exercise self-restraint.
self-restraint は名詞なので、ask の後では to exercise などが必要です。
