tissue factor
Researchers found that factor III triggers the coagulation cascade in damaged tissue.
A membrane-bound protein exposed at sites of tissue injury that binds factor VII/VIIa and initiates the extrinsic pathway of blood coagulation.
A proteinaceous substance, often tissue- or platelet-derived, that activates elements of the coagulation cascade leading to thrombin generation and clot formation.
Tissue factor starts blood clotting after an injury.
Scientists studied factor III to better understand clotting in injured blood vessels.
The laboratory measured thromboplastin activity as part of the patient's coagulation assessment.

× Organization factor causes blood clotting.
○ Tissue factor initiates blood clotting.
× Thromboplastin always means exactly the same thing as tissue factor.
○ Thromboplastin is a related term used in some medical contexts.
