「ポアソン分布」は英語で Poisson distribution と言います。一定の時間や範囲で、ある事象が何回起こるかを表す確率分布で、統計やデータ分析で使われます。二項分布の近似として扱うこともあります。

語源
Poisson distributionは、フランスの数学者シメオン・ドニ・ポアソンの名前に由来し、二項分布のn→∞, p→0でnp=λとした極限として導かれた。
