「同胞」の英語
「同胞」は英語で compatriot と言います。同じ国の人なら compatriot、同じ組織や運動の仲間なら fellow member が自然です。brethren は宗教・政治的演説などで連帯を強調する硬く古風な複数形です。

「同胞」を英語にするときのよくある間違い
× I met a same-country person abroad.
○ I met a compatriot abroad.
same-country personという直訳は不自然です。
× I talked with a brethren.
○ I talked with a fellow member.
brethrenは複数形なので、単数の人を指す場合に a brethren とは言いません。また、日常会話では硬すぎることがあります。
