「を責める」の英語

「を責める」は英語で blame と言います。起きたことを人のせいにする基本表現で、criticize は言動などを批判する場合に使います。ビジネスでは個人を直接責めると強く響くため、表現を和らげることがあります。

中学から使える基本語で、出来事の責任を人や物に向けます。
Don’t blame me for the broken window.
窓が割れたことで私を責めないでください。
criticize
人の言動や考えを批判するときに使う、幅広い表現です。
The article criticizes the policy for ignoring the needs of young workers.
その記事は、若い労働者のニーズを無視した政策を批判しています。
hold someone responsible
問題の責任を負わせる、やや硬めの表現で仕事でも使います。
Our manager held the supplier responsible for repeated quality problems.
私たちの上司は、繰り返す品質問題の責任をその供給業者に負わせました。
point the finger at
責任を他人に押しつける感じがあり、会話で使われます。
I’m not pointing the finger at anyone, but we need answers.
誰かを責めているわけではありませんが、私たちは説明を求めています。

They blamed the delay on heavy traffic.

彼らは遅れを交通渋滞のせいにした。

起きたことの原因を特定の人に向け、その人の責任にするイメージ。

blame: 誰かの責任・過失をせいにする
accuse: 罪や過失を直接的に告発・非難する

To say that someone or something is the reason for a mistake or a bad situation.

blameは、昔のフランス語blamer「悪く言う」から英語に入り、やがて人の行いを責める意味に広がり「～のせいにする」を表すようになった
