「筋が通らない」の英語

「筋が通らない」は英語で illogical と言います。説明や考えに論理性がないときに使う、まず覚えたい表現です。人の判断が理にかなわない場合は irrational、内容が食い違う場合は inconsistent も使えます。

illogical
説明や考えに論理性がなく、筋道が通らないことを表す基本表現です。
The plan seems illogical because it ignores the main problem.
その計画は主な問題を無視していて、筋が通らないように思えます。
doesn't make sense
日常会話で、話や説明が理解できず納得できないときに使います。
Your explanation doesn't make sense to me.
あなたの説明は私には筋が通っていないように思えます。
irrational
人の行動や判断が、理性的でなく不合理だと述べるやや硬い表現です。
It was irrational to reject the offer without discussion.
話し合いもせずにその申し出を断るのは不合理でした。
inconsistent
発言やデータなどの内容が互いに食い違っているときに使います。
The two statements are inconsistent.
その二つの発言は食い違っています。

利用可能なデータを無視するのは不合理だ。

論理や筋道に合わず、合理的な説明や根拠が欠けていることを示す

unlogicalは、否定の接頭辞un-とlogicalが結びついて作られた語で、「論理的でない」を表すが、標準英語ではillogicalが一般的に用いられる。
