定説
「定説」の英語
「定説」は英語で accepted theory と言います。宗教や思想の正統的な教義・見解には orthodoxy が適します。学界や社会で広く受け入れられた考えには established theory や conventional wisdom も使えます。

語源
orthodoxyは、ギリシャ語orthodoxiaに由来し、orthosが正しい、doxaが意見を意味して「正しい意見」を表し、そこから宗教的な正式教義を指す語になった
