こする音

「こする音」の英語

「こする音」は英語で scraping sound と言うのが一般的です。物同士がこすれ合う音には rubbing sound、機械の摩擦音には friction noise などを使います。

scraping sound
物が床や壁などをこすれる、耳障りな音に広く使います。
I heard a scraping sound behind the door.
ドアの後ろからこする音が聞こえました。
rubbing sound
物同士がこすれ合う音を説明する、自然で一般的な表現です。
The loose cable made a rubbing sound against the metal frame.
緩んだケーブルが金属の枠に当たってこすれる音を立てました。
friction noise
機械や部品の摩擦によって生じる音を説明する技術的な表現です。
The technician traced the friction noise to the conveyor belt.
技術者はその摩擦音の原因がコンベヤーベルトにあると突き止めました。
grating sound
こすったような耳障りで不快な音を表す表現です。
The old door made a grating sound as I opened it.
古いドアを開けると、耳障りなこする音がしました。

一定のリズムで繰り返し生じるこする音をさす

rub-a-dubは、英語のrub（こする）とdub（たたく、重ねる）を組み合わせた擬音表現で、繰り返しのある小刻みな音を表すために生まれた。
