「接続表現」の英語

「接続表現」は英語で linking expressions と言います。文章や会話で語句や文をつなぐ表現の総称で、文章の流れを示す transitions や、文法・言語学で使われる connective なども関連する表現です。

linking expression
文章や会話で語句や文をつなぐ表現を広く指す、最も一般的な言い方です。
A linking expression can clarify the relationship between ideas.
接続表現は、考え同士の関係を明確にできます。
transition
段落や文章の流れを切り替えたり、論理関係を示したりする表現を指します。
Clear transitions make the report easier to follow.
明確な接続表現があると、報告書が読みやすくなります。

学習用語として、単語や句のつなぎ役を具体的に指します。

対比を示す接続語や接続句を使いましょう。
connective
一般的な表現ではなく、文法や言語学で、語や句をつなぐ働きをする語を指す専門的な名詞です。
This connective joins two parts of the sentence.
この接続語は文の二つの部分をつなぎます。

連結的な性質で語や文、要素をつなぐことを表す

connectiveは、ラテン語connectere（con-=共に＋nectere＝結ぶ）を語源とする英語connectに、形容詞を作る接尾辞-iveが付いて『つなぐ性質を持つ』の意になった
