「弁論書」の英語
「弁論書」は英語で legal brief と言います。裁判所に提出し、法律や判例を根拠に自分の主張を説明する文書です。控訴審の弁論書は appellate brief と呼ばれます。

語源
legal briefは、legal（法律の）＋brief（短く要点を記した文書）という合成で、briefは中世英語で官報や簡潔な書面を指し、法廷用に論旨を簡潔に示す文書として定着した。
