「底生の白身魚」の英語

「底生の白身魚」は英語で a bottom-dwelling white-fleshed fish と言います。水産学や漁業では、底生魚を demersal fish と表現することもあります。特定の種類を指す場合は、その魚の英語名を使います。

lefteye flounderは、left（左）＋eye（目）＋flounder（平たい底生魚）が結びついた語で、成魚で眼が体の左側に寄ることを表す名称。

英語では眼の位置でflounderの種類を区別し、lefteye flounderは成魚で両眼が左側にあるグループを指すため分類や図鑑でleft/rightの表記が使われることが多い
