「語用論」の英語
「語用論」は英語で pragmatics と言います。文脈や話し手の意図による意味の違いを扱う学問で、pragmatic（実用的な）や pragmatism（実用主義）とは別の専門用語です。

語源
pragmaticsは、ギリシャ語pragma（行為・事物）に由来し、「行為」に関わる語根に学問領域を示す-icsが付いて、文脈と意味の関係を研究する分野として成立した。
