語源
defibrillateは、ラテン語fibrilla（小さな繊維）に由来するfibrillation（細動）にde-が付いて「震えを取り除く」の意で語形成され、心臓の細かなけいれんを止める処置を表すようになった。

○ The doctor performed CPR on the patient.
do CPR to someone という形は不自然です。心肺蘇生を行うことは除細動とは別の処置で、perform CPR on the patient が自然です。
× The nurse defibrillated the patient's chest.
○ The nurse defibrillated the patient.
defibrillate は通常、人（患者）を目的語にして使います。胸部そのものを目的語にはしません。
