「反実仮想」の英語

「反実仮想」は英語で counterfactual と言います。言語学などで、現実とは異なる「もし〜だったら」という仮定や、そのような事例を表します。仮定の性質そのものを指す専門用語は counterfactuality で、日常会話では what if ...? が自然です。

事実と異なる仮定や「もし〜だったら」という状況を指す

counterfactualityは、counterfactual（反事実の）と-ity（性質を表す語尾）から成り、英語で反事実である性質を表す語として用いられる。

過去の事実と異なる仮定では、what if の後に would have ではなく過去完了形を使います。
× Let's talk counterfactuality of the decision.

talk をこの形で使わず、具体的な仮定の場面を表す場合は discuss a counterfactual scenario などと言います。
