混成語
「混成語」の英語
「混成語」は英語で blend と言います。特に語の一部を組み合わせた語は portmanteau または portmanteau word とも言います。言語学では、portmanteau は blend の一種として扱われることがあります。
「混成語」の英語の使い分け
語の一部を組み合わせた新語を指す、一般にもよく使われる表現です。
混成語であることを明確に示す、説明的で分かりやすい表現です。
“Smog” is a well-known portmanteau word.
「スモッグ」はよく知られた混成語です。
言語学で、二つ以上の語の一部を組み合わせてできた語全般を指す、最も包括的な表現です。
