小図

「小図」の英語

「小図」は英語で inset と言います。地図や図表に主図へはめ込む詳細図なら inset、論文などで大きな図を構成する個別パネルなら subfigure が一般的です。目的に応じて使い分けます。

inset
地図や図表に小さくはめ込んだ詳細図を指す一般的な表現です。
The map includes an inset of the harbor.
その地図には港の詳細図がはめ込まれています。
subfigure
学術論文などで大きな図を構成する個別の小図を指します。
Subfigure (b) shows the results of the second experiment.
小図（b）は2番目の実験の結果を示しています。
