「主要用語」の英語

「主要用語」は英語で key term と言います。講義や教科書で特に重要な語には key term が自然で、major term も文脈によっては使えますが、key term ほど一般的ではありません。専門分野で使われる専門用語を指す場合は technical term と言います。

「主要用語」の英語の使い分け

key term
講義や教科書などで特に重要な用語を指す、最も自然な表現です。
The key term is explained in the first chapter.
その主要用語は第1章で説明されています。
major term
重要な用語という意味で文脈によっては使えますが、key term ほど一般的ではありません。
The professor defined the major term carefully.
教授はその主要用語を丁寧に定義しました。
technical term
特定の学問や職業で使われる専門用語を指すときに使います。
“Photosynthesis” is a technical term in biology.
「光合成」は生物学の専門用語です。
