「言わないふり」の英語

「言わないふり」は英語で pretend not to mention it と言います。実際には話題に出しながら、触れないように装う場面で使います。paralipsis は、言わないと示しながら実際には内容を示唆する修辞法を指す専門語です。

触れないように装いながら、実際にはその話題を出す場面に使います。
She pretended not to mention it, but everyone understood.
彼女はそれに触れないふりをしましたが、皆わかっていました。
act as if you won't mention it
それに触れないつもりであるかのように振る舞う、やや説明的な言い方です。
He acted as if he wouldn't mention it, then hinted at the problem.
彼はそれに触れないかのように振る舞ってから、その問題をほのめかしました。
pretend not to say anything
何も言わないふりをするという、より広い意味の表現です。
She pretended not to say anything about the incident.
彼女はその出来事について何も言わないふりをしました。

paraleipsisは、語根のpara-とleipein（残す・欠く）に由来し、言わないことが逆に意味を伝える修辞法として発展した。
