「聞こえないこと」の英語

「聞こえないこと」は英語で not being able to hear と言います。inaudibility は録音や音声が聞こえない状態を表す、やや硬い名詞です。日常会話では I can’t hear you のように言うのが自然で、音は聞こえても内容が分からない場合は unintelligibility が使われます。

「聞こえないこと」を英語にするときのよくある間違い

× I couldn’t listen her.

○ I couldn’t hear her.

音や声が聞こえない場合は listen ではなく hear を使います。
× The recording was unintelligible because there was no sound.

○ The recording was inaudible because there was no sound.

音自体が聞こえない場合は inaudible が適切です。
